Linda Jones, Home Instead Senior Care client care manager, said when seniors volunteer they aren’t just helping others, they are helping themselves.
"Statistics show that those that volunteer have less chronic illnesses, or if they have chronic illnesses, then they can manage those illnesses better by giving to someone else. So whether they have dementia, or Alzheimer’s, or arthritis, helping them volunteer or helping someone else always helps them feel better."
Now Home Instead Senior Care wants to find the best senior volunteer in
"We are looking for an outstanding senior in our community that gives at least 15 hours a month to our community and is 65 years or older."
Jones said the local winner will receive 250 dollars to go to their favorite charity and a plaque and they could go on to be the state or national winner.
"The state winner will receive a 500 dollar donation to the charity of their choice and then the national winner will win a 5,000 dollar donation to the charity of their choice."
You can nominate as many people as you’d like and then you can vote for them once a day until the March 1st cut off.
