LUBBOCK, Texas - The Lady Raider track and field team jumped four spots to No. 15 in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Pre-Championship computer rankings released today.
The No. 15 Lady Raiders enter the NCAA Indoor Championships, scheduled for March 14-15 in Albuquerque, N.M. with four qualifiers alongside the Big 12 Champion 4x400 relay team.
The Red Raiders remained idle at No. 24 in the rankings, and will send three athletes to the NCAA Indoor Championships - a crop that includes two high jumpers in JaCorian Duffield and Bradley Adkins. Tech is the only school with two high jumpers competing at the NCAA Championships.
The Lady Raider 4x400 relay enters the NCAA Championships with a season-best time of 3:34.08, which ranks No. 8 nationally and No. 3 in school history. The squad, consisting of Amoy Blake, Cierra White, Christen Rivers and Montenae Roye-Speight, recorded the time at the Albuquerque Convention Center in February.
White also qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200-meter dash. Meanwhile, teammate Le'Tristan Pledger qualified in both the long jump and the 60-meter hurdles while newcomer Shanice Stewart will join Pledger in the long jump after qualifying with a season-best mark of 6.30-meters (20-8).Junior thrower Kole Weldon will make his return to the NCAA Championships in the shot put after finishing runner-up at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships and third at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Weldon finished runner-up at the Big 12 Indoor Championships in February and the only shot put All-American in school history.
