LUBBOCK, Texas(Texas Tech Press Release) – Texas Tech landed four student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 women’s tennis team, announced league officials.
Samantha Adams, Samantha Czarniak Rego, Kenna Kilgo and Rashmi Teltumbde all received first team honors for the Lady Raiders. It marks the eighth time in the Big 12 era that Texas Tech has secured four spots on the academic first team.
Adams, the most decorated women’s tennis player in program history, earned her third first team Academic All-Big 12 award. She is the sixth Lady Raider to earn first team honors three times, joining Kendall Brooks (2001-03), Kelsy Garland (2009-11), Misty Meyer (1997-99), Caroline Starck (2011-13) and Samantha van der Drift (2007-09). Adams is currently 22-11 overall in singles and 21-12 in doubles this season. She is the second winningest player in the modern era at Texas Tech with 175 career wins.
Kilgo and Teltumbde both recorded their second first team honor. Kilgo is 17-16 in singles and 22-11 in doubles this season, while Teltumbde is 15-13 in singles and 20-8 in doubles.
Czarniak Rego, a freshman, earned her first honor. She is 11-12 in singles this season and 3-5 in doubles.
No. 26 Texas Tech will begin play in the 2014 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships on Friday in Los Angeles, when the Lady Raiders face No. 35 Ole Miss at noon CT at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
