LUBBOCK, TX -- Joe Angel Luz, 41, of Levelland learned on Monday he will not be able to post bond to get out of jail – at least not for now.

Luz, also known as “Freeze” was the subject of a sealed indictment in February on drug-related charges including conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine. He’s also accused of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime. After his arrest last week the indictment was unsealed.

Federal prosecutors asked that Luz stay locked up because he committed a “crime of violence.” He also faces more than 10 years in prison if convicted. Luz goes back to court on Monday, March 31 to enter a plea of either guilty or not guilty. On that day he can also ask a federal magistrate to let him post bond to get out of jail.

At this time none of the “conspirators” are listed in court records; likewise, details leading up to his indictment are not yet listed court records. In 2005 Luz was convicted of a carrying a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime.
