LUBBOCK,TX--Saturday night Tony Stewart, while racing in New York, struck and killed 20-year-old Kevin Ward. It was an accident that sent ripples across the close-knit racing family- felt all the way in Lubbock.

Lubbock's Speedway will host a memorial moment before Friday's race- lowering flags to half mast and running reverse laps in Ward's honor.

The video has since gone viral and left many wondering if it was an accident, or if it might have happened on purpose.

Barry Joachim, owner of Lubbock's Speedway- says that it's almost impossible to tell. The video was taken from a deceiving angle he says. Meaning it's almost impossible to see just how close Stewart was before impact.

Joachim invited us to the speedway to show what he was talking about and to explain how it could possible have been avoided.

The most important thing, he says, is that drivers need to take this as a safety lesson.

"If you run into something-have a wreck- break down," He said, "The first thing you do is stay in your car. That's the number one thing is to stay in your car because that's the only thing that can protect you if there's still cars moving on the track."
