Lubbock Heritage Society Hosting Press Conference to Save Godbold Center

LUBBOCK, TX -- The Lubbock Heritage Society is spearheading a campaign to save a historic quarter of town from possible redevelopment. The center said in an email acquired by EverythingLubbock.com that it will hold a news conference on March 25 concerning the Godbold Center near 19th Street and University Avenue.

The Godbold Center, formerly the Plains Clinic and St. Mary's Hospital, sits on land that has recently been bought by local developer, according to a press release from the Lubbock Heritage Center.

That developer is Clayton Isom, a Lubbock businessman and Tech alum.

Isom was quoted in Texas Tech student publication The Hub@TTU as saying he was still unsure of the future of the property, but he bought the property because of its prominent location.

"The property is not based on the redevelopment of it. We would want the location either way just because of its location,” Isom said, in a story published online earlier this year.

The Lubbock Heritage Society's website also speaks about the Godbold center, saying, "One by one, we have lost buildings with historic significance, and we must make every effort to save what we have left."
