According to Plainview Daily Herald, the changes came as a result of a fist fight between former manager Michelle Araujo and former employee Marilyn Walker at the Lockney Housing Authoity office back in early July. The reason for the fight was unclear; however sources say that it may have been an accumulation of personal factors.
A police report was filed on the incident, but according to Lockney City Attorney Lanny Voss, there is no pending legal action for either party. Both Araujo and Walker were relieved of their duties following the altercation.
The Lockney Housing Authority manages 20 houses and 10 rural developments. The Lubbock Housing Authority was asked to step in to take over the duties of paying bills and collecting rent.
The Plainview Daily Herald also reports that upper management of the state run housing authority met with tenants last week to inform them that nothing was changing as to how the Lockney system worked. The Lockney Housing Authority would still operate through a local board.
