Man Fears for Neighbors' Lives Amid Crime Spree

A wave of burglaries at an east Lubbock apartment complex has one man very concerned for his neighbors' safety. KLBK's Alison Morris reports.
"Because I've been here so long and we all know each other, I mean, it could be one of your family members, or anybody's family members that this happens to."

In the 10 years that Tommy Torres has lived at Stone Hollow Village, he said the crime problem has never been as bad as it is now.

Torres said that it started about 7 months ago, and has gotten worse recently.

3 months ago, he said a man was robbed at gun point in the parking lot.

"I thought it was just a one time thing but I guess not," Torres said. "It's continuing."

"We've had 2 instances. One about 2 weeks ago. A young lady who was pregnant was robbed at gunpoint, and the other one was an older gentleman who's in a wheelchair who was robbed Friday night."

Torres said he's complained to management multiple times about the problem.

"As far as I can see and tell, nothing's been done."

Stone Hollow office officials said today that the first burglary they had heard about was just over a week ago, and they have been working with police to step up patrols around the complex.

For now, Torres fears that if the problem continues, something terrible could happen.

"Someone would be killed."

"Not everyone's gonna let it go and continue going," Torres said. "I will do what I have to do to put a stop to it."
