The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) manages the National Flood Insurance Program. NFIP CRS is a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management activities that help citizens prevent or reduce flood losses. Participating cities are ranked in Class 1-9 based on points received for 18 activities. The City of Lubbock Stormwater Department achieved the Class 7 rating by creating higher design standards for new buildings, improving stormwater management, providing easier access to maps, and better monitoring of playa lakes.
A FEMA representative will recognize the City of Lubbock Stormwater Department by presenting a plaque with the new Class 7 rating at [Thursday's] City Council Meeting.
