LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 24 Texas Tech dropped its Big 12 home opener 11-1 against No. 12 Texas on Friday night with a season-high 4,206 fans in attendance at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
Texas Tech (21-8, 3-4 Big 12) drops to 10-8 all-time in Big 12 home openers while the win moves Texas to 21-6 overall and to 2-2 in Big 12 play.
Red Raider starting pitcher Dominic Moreno (1-5) took the loss giving up three runs (all earned) on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks allowed in four-plus innings.
Texas starter Parker French (4-2) won his fourth game in a seven-inning starting allowing just one run (earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks allowed.
Tech had six players finish with a base hit while junior catcher Hunter Redman (2-for-3) was the only Red Raider with a multi-hit game.
Longhorns second baseman Brooks Marlow went 4-for-6 with three runs and an RBI while finishing a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
Tech scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning on left fielder Tyler Neslony’s RBI single to right field, scoring senior third baseman Jake Barrios, who reached base on a walk.
The Longhorns, meanwhile, finished the contest scoring 11 unanswered runs starting with a run in the third, a four-run fifth inning and plating at least one run during the five final innings of the game.
Four UT players finished with multiple hit games while tallying a season-high 16 base hits. It also marked the most base hits allowed by the Red Raiders this season.
Tech and Texas will continue their three-game Big 12 series on Saturday, Mar. 29 with a 2 p.m. first pitch at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park. Game three of the series is set for Sunday, Mar. 30 at 2:07 p.m. and will be televised on FOX Sports Southwest.
