No. 25 Texas Tech Wins First Road Series Vs. Ranked Team Since 2011

FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 25 Texas Tech scored nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings combined to defeat No. 24 TCU 12-2 and to win its Big 12 series on Sunday afternoon in front of 3,548 fans at Lupton Stadium.

FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 25 Texas Tech scored nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings combined to defeat No. 24 TCU 12-2 and to win its Big 12 series on Sunday afternoon in front of 3,548 fans at Lupton Stadium.
 
The Red Raiders (19-7, 3-3 Big 12) won their first road series over a ranked opponent since 2011 (at No. 14 Baylor) while TCU (13-10, 1-2 Big 12) drops its Big 12 opening series.
 
Tech scored four runs in the fifth inning, sparked by a three-run double by junior Bryant Burleson to right-center field. Burleson finished the game going 2-for-5 with two doubles and five RBI.
 
The Red Raiders followed with five runs in the fifth, which included Burleson’s second double, this time a two-out, two-run double to left-center field.
 
Tech junior left-handed pitcher Chris Sadberry (3-1) won his third game of the season pitching five innings allowing just one run on four hits with one strikeout and a walk.
 
TCU starter Tyler Alexander (3-2) took the loss going 5.1 innings allowing six runs (5 ER) on seven hits with seven strikeouts and a walk.
 
Seven Red Raiders had base hits, nine Tech players scored runs and six had RBI in the contest.
 
Third baseman Jake Barrios went 2-for-5 with an RBI, designated hitter Stephen Smith went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, freshman shortstop Ryan Long went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a double and catcher Hunter Redman went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
 
Junior right-handed pitcher Corey Taylor pitched three scoreless innings out of the Tech bullpen allowing just two hits and a walk with a strikeout.
 
Texas Tech will return home for five straight games next week, starting with Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Tuesday and Wednesday (Mar. 25-26) at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
