The Coronado Mustang Softball team took a huge step towards getting over their 4th round hump with a win over top-ranked Flower Mound 5-1.
Flower Mound threatened to get on the board in the second, but Monique Garcia slammed the door shut with a strikeout to end the inning to keep it scoreless.
In the bottom onf the 2nd The Lady Mustangs got on the board first after Quinn Fortner hit a grounder that got away from the Lady Jaguars second baseman, and just like that Coronado was up 1-0.
Coronado added to their lead a short time later when Teagan Kirk belted one to left to put Coronado up 2-0, and that would be all they needed as they toppled the top ranked lady Jags 5-1.
The Mustangs can clinch the series with a win in game 2 or 3 tomorrow. First pitch in game two is set for 2pm back at Wells Field in Abilene.
