NWS Warns of Lubbock Area Fire Danger Monday

Lubbock is under a “red flag warning” for fire danger Monday afternoon and evening.
LUBBOCK, TX -- Lubbock is under a “red flag warning” for fire danger Monday afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service said Lubbock will have sustained winds in excess of 20 miles per hour and relative humidity levels of less than 15 percent. Humidity could be as low as 5% for some areas around Lubbock.

NWS said the fire danger includes all of the South Plains and the Southwest Texas Panhandle.

The Wildland Fire Assessment System forecasts Lubbock as right on the border between high and very high fire danger for Monday.

The federal Drought Monitor shows most of Lubbock County in extreme drought.
