LUBBOCK, TX-- Lubbock firefighters spent two hours putting out a fire in a South Lubbock home overnight and one person was found dead inside the home.
Just before 1:00 am early Thursday fire crews responded to the 8600 block of Jordan Drive.
"Fire was contained just to the one residence. Fire was called in by a neighbor who had stepped outside and saw the flames," says Fire Chief Rob Keinist.
The Lubbock County Medical Examiner and Fire Marshal were asked to to investigate. As of Thursday evening the name of the victim had not being released.
Neighbors in the cul-de-sac were pretty shaken up and sad to lose a neighbor. Matt Britton, who lives next door, says he watched his neighbor come home Wednesday - then late in the night he heard a crash and ran out to the smell of smoke and sound of sirens.
"There was nothing they could do to get in there. They tried everything they possibly could do to get in," said Britton. "The only thing they could do was contain it and let it burn."
"You lose a neighbor. It kinda hits home," said Britton.
