PLAINVIEW, TX – A Plainview woman is dead following a head-on collision Thursday evening in Hale County. The accident occurred immediately north of the Farm-to-Market Road 788 overpass on the east service road of Interstate 27.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 2010 Toyota Sequoia was traveling northbound on the access road of Interstate 27 when it collided with a south bound 1999 Jeep Cherokee. Authorities say the Cherokee failed to yield the right of way to the Sequoia.
The driver of the Cherokee, 60-year-old Debra Monroe, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two children were in the vehicle with Monroe and were transported to Covenant Women’s and Children’s ER in Lubbock with serious injuries. Troopers say two of the passengers were not wearing seat belts.
There were seven passengers in the Sequoia. One passenger suffered serious injuries and was taken to Covenant Hospital in Plainview. All other occupants were wearing seat belts and child restraint systems, according to Troopers.
