LUBBOCK, TX -- A police chase ended dramatically Tuesday afternoon with a pickup truck on top of a police car near 66th Street and Interstate 27. Police took a man into custody just before 2:00 pm. There had been a chase for several minutes through Central Lubbock with reports of shots fired.
Police said an officer in an unmarked vehicle saw a stolen truck and called for a marked unit. The officer in the marked unit tried to pull over the driver but instead he took off – sometimes at high speeds. Police said at one point the suspect was driving the wrong way along Interstate 27, which caused a crash on the Interstate access road near Avenue A.
The chase ended when a police car crashed into the truck. The driver tried to take off running but an officer tazed him to get him stopped.
Late in the day Tuesday police identified the suspect as Robert Andrew Ramirez, 23, of Lubbock.
