Pond in Plainview to be Secured Due to Dead Fish

The City of Plainview will begin securing the Duck Pond to prevent stray animals and scavengers from feeding off of the hundreds of fish that died Friday, according to the Plainview Daily Herald.
PLAINVIEW, TX -- The City of Plainview will begin securing the Duck Pond to prevent stray animals and scavengers from feeding off of the hundreds of fish that died Friday, according to the Plainview Daily Herald.

Pollution could be a cause of the dead fish at the pond, located at 10th street and Ennis, Public Works Director Mike Gililand told the Herald.

The low elevation of the pond, Gililand said, has made it a natural run-off location for the surrounding area. This may have allowed toxins, such as pestcides and fertilizers, to come into the pond from the light rains earlier this week.

The rain was not heavy enough to dilute the pollutants Gililand said, according to the Daily Herald.
