Position Battles Carry Into Season Opener

The offensive line has plenty of returning faces. But some new ones could add some intrigue to the first couple of games.
The Red Raiders get the 2014 season started here at Jones AT&T Stadium.

We've talked plenty about the offense and what they are capable of this season but the bottom line is, if the guys up front don’t have a good season, the Red Raiders won't have a good season. That is nothing new but the offensive line has plenty of returning faces. One of those being Le’Raven Clark who originally planned to move inside to guard but is now back out at left tackle as Dominique Robertson tries to get acclimated. That's a battle that will continue over the next few weeks.

The Red Raider defense will have quite a few new faces when they hit the field on Saturday, and some young faces to boot particularly in the secondary.

J.J. Gaines, Keenon Ward and Justis Nelson will be the grizzled vets, all possessing a whopping 11 starts.  They will be bringing five other players on the two-deep who have never started a game at Texas Tech, including freshmen Tevin Madison and Jah'shawn Johnson who will get the reps at the field corner to start the season, but they have proved over fall camp that they belong on the field.
