Texas Tech’s reign as national champion in the Capital One Mascot Challenge ended on the first day of 2014.
MCLEAN, VA -- Texas Tech’s reign as national champion in the Capital One Mascot Challenge ended on the first day of 2014. Raider Red was defeated in the championship round by “Rocky the Bull” of the University of South Florida. Rocky wins $20,000 for his school’s mascot program, and bragging rights.
Raider Red finished second after the 16-week competition in which fans chose the winner of each round by voting for their favorite mascot.
Rocky was the first mascot in the 12-year history of the contest to go undefeated all 16-weeks. According to TampaBay.com more than 100 million votes were cast in the 2013 season.
