Texas Tech Head Coach Tom Stone and his women’s soccer team were set to open their 2014 campaign tonight but alleged hazing incidents involving their opponent, New Mexico, forced the cancellation of the season opener.

That forces the ladies to wait an extra couple of days for their season opener on Sunday at 7 p.m.  against Oral Roberts. New Mexico usually served as a good test for the girls but they will not dwell on it. In fact they’ll be even more excited when they hit the field on Sunday.

“We were disappointed, obviously, that we are not going to be playing on Friday,” forward Janine Beckie said, “but that makes us even more excited for Sunday.  By Sunday night at seven we are going to be jumping to get out on the field.”

“It's something we just can't spend any time or energy on,” Stone said. “Last year was a win but they finished pretty poorly. Usually though, New Mexico finishes really well and that victory, if it was one, would serve us well.”

“We don't know now because we didn't play the game but spending any time on it is waste. We are just focusing on Sunday and trying to get as many games under our belt as possible.  There is always a chance for a reschedule which we are hoping for."
