It is the first Friday of training camp and one thing is for sure, this team has brought the energy and intensity.
Now that Texas Tech head football coach, Kliff Kingsbury's fast-paced tempo is the standard, the guys have kept the energy high all week but they also claim they received a boost from putting an exclamation point on the 2013 season with a great Holiday Bowl win over Arizona State.
It has been well documented about the team's impressive 7-0 start to the season only to have it overshadowed by a subsequent five-game losing streak.
However, that dominant win over the Sun Devils made a statement that the Red Raiders have carried into the off season and training camp."Yeah that's what it's all about, because they bought into how hard we practiced during that bowl period," Kingsbury said. "I didn't give them a day off really and sold to them that if we worked this hard and did things the right way that, that game would come out our way and it did and so that's carried us through the off season."
"Losing five in a row, especially some games where they were really close, and games you felt if you would have done one more thing then it would have been better," junior defensive end, Branden Jackson said. "But after that bowl game, it was big that Coach Kingsbury didn't let us go home, we stayed here the whole bowl game and we kind of bonded. The unity that we brought together and the way we played in the bowl game was just beautiful."
"I mean, that's just the standard around Texas Tech, you know we put on a great performance in that bowl game, and we shouldn't ever go below that," senior linebacker, Sam Eguavoen said.
