LUBBOCK, Texas - The Miami Marlins selected Texas Tech junior left-handed pitcher Chris Sadberry (Holliday, Texas) with the 167th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Friday afternoon.

Sadberry becomes Tech's highest drafted left-handed pitcher since 2006 when Dustin Richardson went in the fifth round to the Boston Red Sox.

Sadberry is 4-3 this season in 15 starts with a 3.49 ERA with 80.0 innings pitched, 52 strikeouts and 23 walks allowed. Sadberry is the only Red Raider to start every week during the season while the Red Raiders are 10-5 during his starts this season.

Sadberry, an All-Big 12 second team selection, will become the first Red Raider since 2006 (Miles Moran - 17) to start 16 games in a season when he leads the Red Raiders onto the field tomorrow in the NCAA Lubbock Super Regional against College of Charleston in game one of the best-of-three series.

Sadberry was the third pitcher taken by the Marlins in this year's draft and was the second lefty taken by Miami.

Texas Tech had one signee selected through seven rounds of the draft with left-handed pitcher Tanner Scott (Howard College) taken in the sixth round (181st overall) by the Baltimore Orioles.
