LUBBOCK, Texas – The seeds are set for the 2014 Big 12 Tennis Championships, which begin play Wednesday in Fort Worth at the at TCU’s Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Lady Raiders, who finished in a three-way tie for third with Oklahoma and Texas in the Big 12, have secured the league’s No. 4 seed, while the Red Raiders, who finished in a three-way tie for fourth with Oklahoma State and TCU, will also be the fourth seed.
The Lady Raiders finished the regular season at 16-7 overall and 6-3 in the Big 12. It marks the first time in program history that Texas Tech has finished in the conference top three for three consecutive years. The Lady Raiders won the Big 12 regular season out right in 2012 and tied for the league title in 2013.
The winningest senior class in program history will now set their sights on the winning the league’s automatic bid by securing the Big 12 Championship title. The Lady Raiders received a first-round bye and will face fifth-seeded Oklahoma on Friday at noon. With a win, the Lady Raiders would advance to face the winner of No. 1 Baylor versus either No. 8 Kansas or No. 9 Iowa State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Red Raiders finished the regular season at 13-9 overall and 1-4 in Big 12. The Texas Tech men are in search of their 13th overall NCAA Championship appearance. The Red Raiders will face fifth-seeded Oklahoma State on Friday at 9 a.m. With a win, the Red Raiders would advance to face top-seeded Baylor on Saturday at noon.
