Storm spotters reported a brief touchdown of what might described as a “rope” tornado lasting a minute or less.
LUBBOCK, TX -- A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for portions of Hockley and Lubbock Counties just after 6:00 pm Monday. Quarter-size hail, high winds and frequent lightning were reported with the storm that gave rise to the warning.
Minutes before that, storm spotters reported a brief touchdown of what might described as a “rope” tornado lasting a minute or less. It was spotted along F.M. 1585 in the eastern portion of Hockley County.
Just minutes before the tornado, a gustnado was reported on the ground in Hockley County for 12 minutes. A hog barn was destroyed according to weather spotters. A gustnado is not the same as a tornado but it can cause property damage.
