LUBBOCK, TX -- Beatles great Sir Paul McCartney will kick off his upcoming US tour right here in Lubbock. He'll play at the United Spirit Arena June 14th.
"When the Beatles played their first show in the United States, Paul McCartney is quoted as saying that the Beatles first 40 songs, their first 40 hits were strongly influenced by Buddy Holly and his music. So its appropriate here in this building, that honors one of rock n' roll's great pioneers and Lubbock's son that we announce that Paul McCartney will play the United Spirit Arena on June 14th," said Texas Tech President Duane Nellis, Ph.D.
Buddy Holly Center Director Brooke Witcher says McCartney has long called Holly an inspiration.
"Buddy Holly's influence spans many generations, not just Paul McCartney and the Beatles, they are probably the most notable, but he also influenced Elvis Costello, the Rolling Stones, Graham Nash," said Hitcher.
Hitcher is hoping McCartney will play a Buddy Holly song at the concert.
"I feel like this is a great opportunity for Lubbock, its a wonderful opportunity for the center, to use as an educational opportunity to explain to the public Buddy's influence on generations," said Hitcher.
