LUBBOCK, TX -- Two local men sued Slaton ISD last week in State District Court for a traffic accident on January 29, 2013.

Steven Martin was driving along Highway 84 in Slaton with Lloyd Daniel Butler as his passenger. The lawsuit said a Slaton ISD school bus “suddenly and unexpectedly” pulled out in front of Martin’s vehicle which crashed into the bus. The lawsuit said children were on board at the time but not does say if anyone other than Martin and Butler were hurt.

The lawsuit said, “The Texas Department of Public Safety trooper called to the scene cited [David Salazar] Cruz, the Slaton ISD bus driver, for failure to yield the right-of-way and failure to stop at the … intersection.”

Martin and Butler are seeking “over $100,000 but not more than $200,000.” Slaton ISD has not yet filed its side of the story in court records.
