(Texas Tech Press Release)
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech soccer standouts Jaelene Hinkle and Janine Beckie earned another preseason honor Wednesday as the website TopDrawerSoccer.com listed the two Red Raiders among its top 50 players in the country.
Hinkle, a senior defender out of Denver, Colorado, will enter her senior season ranked as the ninth-best player in the country according to the website, while Beckie, a native of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, was picked 44th overall.
Texas Tech was one of just 10 programs nationally with at least two players ranked among the top 50 in the nation and the only one from the Big 12 Conference.
This is the fourth preseason accolade already this summer for Hinkle, who was already recognized by Top Drawer Soccer as one of the top returning defenders in the country. She was also a unanimous Preseason All-Big 12 selection and a candidate for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy.
Hinkle boosted a talented Tech back line a year ago that allowed only nine goals on the year. She was instrumental on the attack as well, providing a team-high six assists en route to garnering third team All-American accolades.
Beckie, meanwhile, enters her junior season coming off another banner year up front for the Red Raiders where she totaled a team-high 12 goals and added four assists. She was an All-Big 12 first team selection for the second-straight season and an NSCAA All-Region honoree as well.
It is the third preseason honor for Beckie this summer as she is also a MAC Hermann Trophy candidate and a member of the Preseason All-Big 12 Team.
The 17th-ranked Red Raiders open the 2014 season this Sunday with a 7 p.m. kickoff against Oral Roberts at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
