Tech struggled early; TCU’s Cody Jones hit a standup leadoff double in the bottom of the first inning - followed by a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly ball by his teammates to score him.
Tech stranded Adam Kirsch in the top of the second inning. Tech also stranded runners in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. The fifth was particularly painful for the Red Raiders because they had two men on base with no outs.
Tech’s struggles at the plate came to an abrupt end in the eighth inning when Tyler Neslony hit a two-run RBI triple to deep right field. Zach Davis and Anthony Lyons were the two runs. Neslony was then tossed out in a fielder’s choice between third base and home plate. But the damage was done; the Red Raiders took the lead 2 – 1.
But TCU answered in the bottom of the eighth; Keaton Jones crossed home plate on a hit by Cody Jones – scored as a hit and an error. Boomer White then had an RBI hit to score Cody Jones. The score was 3 – 2 in TCU’s favor after eight.
The Red Raiders stranded two and did not score in the ninth.
Tech plays again Tuesday afternoon in the CWS which is a double-elimination series.
