With 40 seconds remaining in the game it was tied at 61 when Jay Crockett hit the go-ahead goal. He had 21 points and 12 rebounds.
“Our guys deserved the win,” said coach Tubby Smith. “They played extremely hard.”
“I thought we played one of our better games all around defensively and offensively,” Smith added.
Crockett also spoke after the game saying, “I really didn't take it upon myself because we had an offense that we were running. And it's kind of worked out to where I took the shot.”
Crockett also said, “It was extremely important for us to get the win tonight - just for the team – and it’s going to give us confidence going into the next game because it doesn't get any easier from here.”
Smith said, “We got quality plan of Jaye Crockett and just about everyone contributed off the bench and did something positive.”
In the final seconds of the game, Oklahoma State guard Marcus Smart shoved a Texas Tech fan later identified as Jeff Orr. Smart was assessed a technical foul. Orr has a reputation for heckling the opposing team.
OSU has scheduled a statement for late Sunday afternoon concerning the incident.
As for the game, Smith said, “We know that Oklahoma State is very talented team. I thought our inside presence made a difference.”
“I think it validates that we’re moving in the right direction.”
