Texas Tech junior thrower Kole Weldon broke a five-year-old school record in the men’s shot put tonight at the 87th Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

Weldon recorded a mark of 19.67-meters (64’-6.50”) on his fifth throw of the competition.

Weldon, who finished third in the shot put at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, broke Harrison Benjamin’s previous school record of 19.60-meter (64’-3.75”) set in 2009.

Weldon now owns both the indoor and outdoor school records in the shot put.

His record was the second of the day to fall for Texas Tech at the Texas Relays as Hannah Carson broke her own mark in the javelin in the first event of the day.
