ROUNDUP, TX -- The Texas Department of Public Safety on Wednesday released information about a deadly crash Tuesday afternoon four miles west of Roundup in Hockley County. DPS said Kirstie Kay Watkins, 37, of Anton, was going west on Maine Road at the intersection of King Road when a GMC C-7500 truck struck the driver side of her 2007 Grand Prix. Watkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck, Zachary Joe Bounds, 20, of Littlefield, was not injured according to DPS even though the crash caused the truck to roll over. DPS said Bounds was going north on King Road and failed to yield the right of way at the “open” intersection.
DPS said even though there is no stop sign, King Road is a dirt road and Maine Road is paved; DPS said under Texas law the vehicles on the paved road have the right of way at such an intersection.
