ODESSA, TX -- Two Odessa police officers were fired and a third resigned amid allegations of not following police department policy.

Police Chief Tim Burton said Cpl. Brian Sirmon was terminated because he was “untruthful” about an improper relationship he had with a woman he arrested in January.

The chief said Sgt. Wesley Huse was seeing a woman while he was supposed to be on duty. Huse was also accused of using a police-issued phone to contact the woman.

Both were fired last week. A third officer, Ricardo Rodriguez, resigned on April 23rd. Chief Burton said Rodriguez was under investigation for allegations of public intoxication.

“Whenever an officer goes astray and acts in a manner that's unacceptable, of course it draws great attention in headlines," Burton said.

Burton also said, “When people deviate from those standards in ways that are unacceptable for professional police officers, we act.”

Burton defended the department, saying, “The vast majority of this organization is made up of many men and woman working very hard every day. And men and women who do the right thing thousands and thousands of times.”
