Two Sent to Hospital After Trucks Runs Into Building

Two people were taken University Medical Center after the truck they were driving ran off the road and into a commercial metal building.
LUBBOCK COUNTY, TX -- Two people were taken University Medical Center after the truck they were driving ran off the road and into a commercial metal building. The accident occurred southeast of Lubbock off U.S. Highway 84, just past the County Road 7200 intersection Saturday afternoon.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a 2002 Chevy pickup truck ran off the highway, drove across a field and then into the side of the commercial metal building. The roof of the building collapsed on the truck trapping the two occupants.

The Buffalo Spring Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Slaton Fire Department, Department of Public Safety, Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, UMC EMS and AeroCare all responded the scene of the accident. The Lubbock Fire Department was also called in to assist the two other fire departments in removal of the collapsed roof from the vehicle.

One occupant was transported from the accident scene by UMC EMS. The other occupant was transported by AeroCare. Both were taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock.  

Corporal John Gonzales with the DPS tells EverythingLubbock.com the identification of the occupants and their medical conditions are unknown as of late Saturday afternoon.
 
Traffic along U.S. Highway 84 heading into Slaton was backed up for a time while emergency crews responded the accident.

The truck has been removed from the building by a local wrecker service.

The accident remains under investigation.
