LUBBOCK,TX (PRESS RELEASE) -- UMC presented its Employee of the Year award for 2013 to James Berlingeri, a patient care assistant and Emergency Center transporter, during the hospital's 36th Annual Employee Recognition Banquet held Saturday at the Overton Hotel & Conference Center.

Berlingeri was chosen from 12 finalists who received special recognition as fellow employees of the month throughout the past year. UMC has approximately 3,500 employees.

A UMC team member since 2007, Berlingeri was named employee of the month in September for demonstrating great compassion to a child whose father passed away shortly after arriving at the Emergency Center.

"We really enjoy having James on our team," said John Parsons, department director of the Emergency Center. "He goes above and beyond, and always does the right thing for our patients."

Though he lived in Austin for a short time growing up, Berlingeri was born in Lubbock and considers it his home. Currently, he and his fiancée Daylene are busy finalizing the details of their upcoming wedding.

UMC congratulates James Berlingeri on his accomplishment and thanks him for his dedication to the organization and its patients.

UMC Health System is ranked among the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for patient satisfaction by HealthGrades, and has consistently ranked among the best places to work in Texas by the Best Companies Group. More than 300,000 patients a year choose UMC.
