Davis Webb will be the starting quarterback heading into fall camp, which begins Monday, August 4th.
Last season Michael Brewer was the presumed starter but coach Kingsbury announced it was an open competition going into fall camp. But in the first game of the season, walk-on Baker Mayfield emerged as the starter.
After an impressive Holiday Bowl win, where he threw for a record, four touchdown passes, Davis Webb has taken the task of being “The Guy” and run with it.
"he's a new guy,” head coach Kliff Kingsbury said. “He gained 30 pounds from when he got here, He's playing better than he ever has.”
His teammates have also noticed a change during summer workouts and Bradley Marquez has been impressed with Webb this off-season.
Think the biggest thing is maturity from year one to year two,” Marquez said. “He has a lot maturity in knowing that this is his team. H ahs a lot of confidence now and the team rally behind him. He's a leader for us now."
While Coach Kingsbury enjoyed having the competition last season, it makes a difference when there is just one guy calling the shots.
He's the one voice in the locker room that going to make that thing go,” Kingsbury said, “He knows it. Our team knows it. I'm just proud of how he has handled all of it."
