(LUBBOCK, TX) - Janette Ybarra, 18, wasn't sure about her wish at first.
"I kind of just winged it," she said.
But when it came time for her to get on a plane, she had no second thoughts.
A cancer diagnosis forced the high school senior to endure months of radiation.
"I thought, like, this doesn't happen to people like me."
Today, she's cancer free and headed to Hawaii.
Janette described the trip as a recovery celebration and said she's most looking forward to surfing in the Hawaii sun.
Parents Juan and Rosa said they're thankful for Make-A-Wish for giving them this once in a lifetime trip.
"To see them experience something they've never experienced, I think that's going to be the most rewarding," Janette's step mom, Rosa, said.
"It's just special for her because we could have never done this for her and it's great that someone cares," Janette's dad, Juan, added.
