James went to jail after officers raided The Game Room, 6625 19th Street, and confiscated some of the hardware out of game machines. On April 8 Lubbock police shut down a similar business – the Paradise Game Room at 5015 University Avenue - and took Panayiotis Procopi, 49, into custody.
“Every few years we see this pop up and it’s something we have to deal with,” said Sergeant Jason Lewis, spokesman for the Lubbock Police Department. “They’ll stop for a while and lay low. I think, once they figure the coast is clear they’ll pop back up again.”
James pleaded guilty to a gambling-related charge in August of 2013. She was sentenced to time served for that misdemeanor charge. As of Monday night James was able to post bonds totaling $7,500 to get out of jail but had not yet bonded out.
