Dr. J Davis Armistead was honored and awarded the “Doug Carlson Hunger Hero of the Year” today at the annual Mayor’s Hunger Heroes Luncheon. Mayor Glen C. Robertson presented Dr. Armistead with the award.
Dr. J. Davis Armistead has volunteered with the South Plains Food Bank for over 16 years, serving on the Board and other special task groups. Over the years Dr. Armistead has helped raise thousands of pounds of food and dollars. One of Dr. Armistead’s favorite places to volunteer is at the George Elle Orchard. He says that he has some of his best conversations with the inmates that help work the orchard. (South Plains Food Bank Hunger Heroes Committee)
“Dr. Armistead has been a friend of the food bank since it was founded,” said David Weaver, South Plains Food Bank CEO. “It was an honor to recognize him for the dedication and spirit he has shared over the years. He is so humble about what he accomplished and I am thrilled that he was selected to be the Doug Carlson Hunger Hero of the year.”
The Hunger heroes and their friends and families attended the Luncheon Friday at the Monterey Church of Christ at 6111 82nd St. in Lubbock.
