LUBBOCK, TX--- Some sad news here in Tahoka at the Lynn County Animal Shelter.
Overnight Lynn County Sherrif and Fire responded to the animal shelter for a fire.
We're told the cat room and adoption wellness rooms of the shelter caught fire last night about 10:20.
Fire crews were called out after a passerby saw the flames.
Unfortunately about 7 cats were inside at the time.
They did not make it out.
Ashley West, Director of Animal Services in Tahoka says "You know we try tirelessly to get our dogs out of here and our cats out of here, and into homes and part of that is making sure they're well enough to be adopted. And that's a big loss that we took last night.
In addition, many of the supplies the shelter uses for wellness and adoption programs were also destroyed.
"Any monetary or supply donations that we lost basically all of our wellness supply and we can use anything anyway people can help
We would greatly appreciate it. We can make we can take a little a long way so we'd appreciate anything."
As for the rest of the shelter no other building was touched by the fire.
For now the investigation of the fire has been given over to the Lynn County Sheriff's office.
No official word on exactly what caused it.
