AIKEN, TX -- The people of Aiken, Texas (in Floyd County) do not have much, but until now they had a Post Office. That comes to an end on December 31.

According to the Plainview Daily Herald all duties of the Aiken Post Office, with zip code 79221, will be transferred to the Post Office in Lockney. Founded by Fred Aiken, the unincorporated town has at least three houses and a Deltapine cotton seed processing plant.

Aiken, a 67-mile drive northeast of Lubbock, had a CPU or contracted postal unit. The contractor decided not to renew.

Billie Hamlin is the current contractual postal unit clerk at the Aiken office. The Daily Herald quotes Hamlin as saying “I’m really going to miss it. I love the people.”
