LUBBOCK, TX -- Dozens of folks in Lubbock have reportedly been bitten by the latest flu bug and doctors say if you get it checked out it could be deadly.
According to the Texas Health Department the amount of Texans with the flu is almost doubled compared to two years ago.
Local doctors said the bug hit earlier this year, too, with some patients getting treatment as early as September.
Lisa Taylor, a nurse practitioner, said many folks just don’t get immunized which is a decision she said is risky.
“It can be very dangerous,” said Taylor. “You can die of the flu, especially in the very young and the very old. High fever, nausea, soar throat, any of those things, you need to get checked!”
Taylor said it’s not too late to get a flu shot with the flu season running through March.
She said washing your hands and keeping distance from those who are sick is another way to avoid the flu.
