LUBBOCK, TX--- School systems are always trying to update their schools in order to keep kids and staff safer.
Today Frenship ISD implimented a new system in their own schools.
KLBK's Joshua Cole Little has today's safety matters.
Next to education safety is the next most important thing that school administrators are looking toward.
At Frenship ISD they're taking the next added step making sure that everyone is safe.
So if you want inside the school, you'll have to go through the office.
"Obviously our first priority being in the school system is safety and security of our kids and our staff," says Heritage Assitiant Principal Gina Laughlin.
"At all of our campuses we have what's called a Safe and Secure entrance and basically what that is is a second set of doors that funnels all traffic into the office anyway." says Andy Penney with Frenship ISD.
Now when you enter a Frenship school-- you'll be stopped at the front door and must buzz in-- before you can even enter the main office.
"Really what it does is empower our staff to look and see at who's about to walk in the door and their purpose here," says Laughlin.
To Gina Laughlin, this system is necessary to keep unwanted visitors out.
And Andy Penney this upgraded system has been planned on a long time, and is now in every Frenship school.
"Everyone that comes in after 8:15 whether they're familiar to our campus or unfamiliar to our campus will follow the same procedures which is our new buzz in system," said Penney.
School administrators at Heritage Middle School say that the challenge now is training parent to use the new buzz in system. However they say its all for the added benefit of the students and parents.
Lubbock ISD also uses these Safe and Secure entrances in many of their schools.
In addition to still requiring everyone who enters to check in and be screened.
