Young, old, rich, poor-it does not matter who you are free stuff is free stuff.
“We are out here filling up everybody’s tank of gas up to $20 for the first 200 cars,” Brinkey said.
Abbie Brinkey with the Texas Tech federal credit union said the event was their way of showing support for the community.
“It is just to show that we are here to fuel the local economy,” Brinkey said.
Yes, the pun was intended.
“And also encourage them to bank locally with us as well.”
40 other banks across the country participated in the event which gave away four thousand dollars worth of free fuel.
“It’s nice everybody could use some free gas,” Myra Alred said.
Hundreds of cars packed the Market street on 98th and Quaker.
In one of them was Myra Alred who stumbled upon the promotion.
“I was just going to come in and get something and then I saw one of the employees at the entrance and they told me,” Alred said.
Mr. Garcia was listening to the radio when he found out about the event.
“I am sure appreciative of them being able to do that for us,” Garcia said.
But he was a little surprised when we asked him how long he had been waiting.
“Oh probably about an hour,” Garcia said.
Despite the long wait everyone said it was a nice way to start the day.
“I think that is impressive,” Garcia said.
“That’s nice,” Alred said. “It helps to know somebody cares enough to help you out.”
