LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech senior Kennedy Kithuka was honored Tuesday by the Big 12 as the conference Runner of the Week following his performance at the historic Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday.
Kithuka, who was named the national Athlete of the Week Monday by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, finished first overall at the meet for his 10th-straight victory in a Red Raider uniform.
The Thika, Kenya native finished more than 30-seconds ahead of the pack which included five All-Americans in the next six spots. Kithuka is now unbeaten in each of the first three meets this year.
Kithuka has now twice been named the Big 12 Runner of the Week this season after earning the league’s first honor of year.
Kithuka went unblemished in 2012 winning each of his seven races on the way to capturing Tech's first-ever men's individual NCAA title. Along the way he captured the Big 12 individual title and was later named the National Male Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA.
The Red Raiders and Lady Raiders return to action Oct. 5 at the Arkansas Chile Pepper Festival.
