LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders return home Wednesday for a 7 p.m. bout with Arkansas-Pine Bluff after going 0-2 over the weekend in Brooklyn, N.Y., at the Barclays Center Women’s Invitational.
The game will be broadcast on FOX College Sports – Atlantic as part of Texas Tech TV.
Tech (3-3) fell 72-61 to Michigan on Friday and 61-52 to Rutgers on Saturday – the first back-to-back losses this season for the Lady Raiders.
UAPB (1-5) has lost its last five games following an opening season win at home against Philander Smith.
Junior guard Amber Battle scored a career-high 23 points on Friday against Michigan and is now the only player in the Big 12 Conference averaging a double-double this season. Battle leads Tech and is sixth in the conference in scoring with 17.2 points per game and leads all Big 12 players with 10 rebounds per game. She’s scored in double figures in five of Tech’s six games this season – twice with 20 points or more.
Freshman Jasmine Caston took advantage of the extra minutes in New York and turned in her best two performances of the season. She scored a career-high 15 points against Michigan and followed it up with 11 on Saturday against Rutgers. Caston averaged 13 points per game in the two contests and was 6 of 9 from the three-point line. She came into New York averaging only 3.3 points in Tech’s first four games.
The Lady Raiders continue to be one of the most consistent teams from the free-throw line, not just in the Big 12 Conference, but also around the country. Tech is third among all Division I teams and second in the conference in free-throw percentage at 88.2 percent, hitting 111 of 135 from the charity stripe.
