WELLMAN, TX -- This week Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is expected to approve a $20,727 fine against the City of Wellman in Terry County. TCEQ records say the city failed to submit paperwork for its wastewater operation, failed to monitor wastewater disposal, and failed to maintain certain equipment.
In a written agreement, TCEQ ordered Wellman to submit reports and repair equipment. The cost of the equipment can be used to offset the penalty. The repairs are expected to cost slightly more than the fine. So, effectively Wellman will pay no money to TECQ.
The Mayor of Wellman signed off on the agreement in September and TCEQ Commissioners are expected to approve it on Wednesday.
