Lubbock Man Appears on ABC's Shark Tank

Shawn Genenbacher takes his Christmas invention to Hollywood just in time for the holidays.

For years friends and family told Shawn Genenbacher to try and get on Shark Tank.

Finally he took their advice and went to an open casting call in Dallas.

After a 45 second pitch-he got a call back.

“I remember coming home talking to my wife and she was like you’ve got nothing to lose just go,” Genenbacher said.

In 2009 Genenbacher invented Litenetics-a new strand of Christmas lights that makes decorating faster and easier.

“We patented a light fixture that has a magnetic embedded at the base of each and every socket strand,” Genenbacher said.

Because of the magnets-the lights can go on any metal object or even nails in your yard.

A full time architect, Genenbacher has been running Litenetics on the side with his wife Christy and help from family and friends.

But Shark Tank gave them the opportunity to grow.

An opportunity he said he was nervous and excited for.

“The doors open, you kind of walk through and there you go,” Genenbacher said. “You say your pitch and from there you hit the ground running.”

Genenbachers sharks included Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and FUBU CEO Daymond John.

He said with these guys what you see on TV is what you get.

“They are fighting and bickering,” Genenbacher said. “The questions and comments they make are just like you see on the show itself, so it’s just like that.”

Because of his contract Genenbacher can not talk about the results of the show but the smile he makes when talking about the experience gives a little tip towards the outcome.

“I am so thankful family and friends pushed me to do it,” Genenbacher said. “It was a great experience. I am very pleased and excited.”

Genenbacher’s episode will air Friday December 13 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
