Lubbock Police Officer Attacked, Hospitalized; Suspect Arrested

Lubbock Police arrested James Edward Norman, 30, for attacking a police officer.
LUBBOCK, TX -- Lubbock Police arrested James Edward Norman, 30, for attacking a police officer. Just before midnight Wednesday evening an officer tried to stop Norman who was walking in the 6200 block of Avenue L. 

Norman was “found to be in possession of a firearm and began fighting” according to a police report. Norman assaulted Brinnen Kent, according to the police report. Officer Kent was taken to University Medical Center and has since been treated and released.

The specifics of Kent’s injuries were not listed in the police report.  A statement from police late Thursday morning said Kent suffered minor injuries.  

The report said Norman had “possible stolen property.”  

Norman faces a long list of charged including 
Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.  Norman was also arrested in April of 2013 for assault on a public servant.    

A second suspect was identified but released at the time with charged to possibly be filed later.
