LUBBOCK, TX -- A Lubbock woman, Melissa Renee Deleon, 34, was charged Wednesday with making a false statement to federal investigators. Court records say Deleon prepared false tax returns for customers of Z & Z Bookkeeping and Tax Service.
But specifically the charge she faces is lying an IRS investigator. If convicted, her maximum penalty would be five years in federal prison.
Four other women were previously convicted of federal charges related to Z & Z.
After Deleon left Z & Z she was employed by another Lubbock business which filed a police report last year. Deleon was accused of stealing $10,000 from the business.
Deleon was arrested this year on the theft charge and then released on bond. At last check she had not been re-arrested in light of the new federal charge.
