Lubbock Unemployment Situation Improved

The Lubbock area has created 1,600 new jobs in the last year according to estimates from the TWC.
LUBBOCK, TX -- Lubbock’s local unemployment rate in October dropped to 4.7% according to numbers released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission. For September it had been 5.0%. The number of people with a job in the Lubbock statistical area rose from 141,300 in September to 142,100 in October.

The Lubbock area has created 1,600 new jobs in the last year according to estimates from the TWC. Lubbock is tied with Abilene for the fourth lowest unemployment rate in Texas. The TWC said statewide unemployment rate was 6.0% if unadjusted. However, it was 6.2% statewide when seasonally adjusted.
